Remember the try out test is in January. This year read 12 out of the 15 books by then.
Pass the AR tests on all the books with an average of 85%. You are allowed 2 do-overs.
The test will be a timed multiple choice and the 6 highest scores make the team.
The following are tips from students who have made the team in the past.
- Tip 1 – Start reading this summer [ at least 2 or 3 of the books].
- Tip 2 – As you are reading take notes [ mental or written].
- Tip 3 – Keeping a notebook can help.
- Tip 4 – Jot down dates, song names, pop culture mentioned, and weird little details.
- Tip 5 – Start reading the smaller books and save the bigger books for last.
- Tip 6 – Why ? So the big books you just read will stay fresh in your mind.
- Tip 7 – Also you could quickly skim through the smaller books just before the test .
- Tip 8 – Remember you can check out audio versions from the public library or sometimes Overdrive
- Tip 9 – Listening to the book is helpful [ but you still have to read the book too].
- Tip 10 – Many students tried out 3rd and 4th grade, but made it in 5th grade [so try out each year].
This is our latest team. They were unable to compete this year due to the pandemic. However they are number 1 in our hearts!
